Seventh (heaven) photostop: Crete 2011-10-01 to ->. Page 17. Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 - Lazying in Platanias. Our landlords, Maria and Giorgios, continued harvesting their olive trees around the house (their hard work has continued for many days), and Giorgios brought us a bottle of their olive oil, a bottle of his wine, and a bottle of his tsigoudia (raki). The Cretan hospitality keeps amazing us over and over again! We did not work hard, but having done so yesterday, we decided to go to a place where there is nothing to do this time of the year. So we drove to Platanias :) It is more or less a ghost "town" now that the tourist season is very much over. And, ofcourse, we have some very nice memories which connect us to Platanias and especially to the neighbouring Gerani.
Our memories do not necessarily have to do with house 497 expecting Christmas :) but this view caught Hannu's eye when walking with Kiti and Milli up to Kato Platanias.
We were more interested to see if sweet Maria, not our present sweet Maria landlord now, but our hostess in Gerani some years ago, was by her house up in Kato Platanias. Unfortunately not :(
Just a bit down the steep road, there is this.
And when you have come down all the way to the beach, there is the KRI-KRI island! That means that this island is reserved for some of those rare and large mountain animals. People are allowed on the island only on one day each year - when it is the day of the island's saint. In the evening we had dinner/supper in Taverna Mythos with Merja Tuominen - and our dear Nikos joined us. We feel that Nikos and Merja, those two food and horta enthusiasts, found many mutual things of interest. After the meal Kiti, Merja and Hannu went to the local kafeneion to have small glasses of a secret drink :) Quite a nice day! P.S. It turned out that both Merja and we have become aquainted with, and share the same fond feelings towards, sweet Maria of Gerani/Platanias!
