Barcelona is worth a visit for innumerable reasons. A unique, and excellent, reason is Antonio Gaudi, the craziest and most ingenious architect in the world, whose major works can be found right there. Actually, no other reason is necessary because one could spend an eternity being mesmerized by the lunatic ingenuity of Casa Batlló, Mila, Calvet, etc. And another eternity could be spent at marvelling Park Güell and Sagrada Familia.
Another great reason is that Barcelona is in Spain, and there one can easily enjoy Muga.
If Gaudi is the most beautiful flower in the garden of non-linear thinking, Muga is a fruit of the down-to-earth vegetation sprouting in Rioja. Similar to the giant turtles of Sagrada Familia whose shields carry the weight of the towers and the abundance of their statues and legends.
Muga 1993 crianza fits your nose with the self-assurance of Rioja. Tar, oak, and dark fruit. On your lips, tongue, and palate: a linguering of strong grape, dark berries, and a softly muscular liveliness of wine. - This certainly puts one's hopes high up, knowing that you have a crianza from the excellent 1994, and a 1991 Gran Reserva (which comes from a better year than the glorified 1989 Gran Reserva) maturing in your cellar.
An influenza caught in the belated spring of Barcelona isn't such a high price for all these and many more enjoyments! Next week: Dali!
