April 7, 2007 Easter Saturday The biggest day of the Greek Easter in Kalyves is Saturday. In the evening people go to the great mass in the church. At mid-night, after the ceremony, all light up candles and walk to the beach where a huge bonfire is waiting to burn a dummy representing Judas. But before that, during the day, the younger people started a carnivalistic procession to bring in the wood that is needed to make the bonfire. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On the beach the youths are doing all sorts of things youths do when intoxicated. Like going swimming with clothes on, or actually throwing friends into the sea for a compulsory swim. BTW. The village president offered us beers because we were empty-handed.
