Easter Saturday

The biggest day of the Greek Easter in Kalyves is Saturday. In the evening people go to the great mass in the church. At mid-night, after the ceremony, all light up candles and walk to the beach where a huge bonfire is waiting to burn a dummy representing Judas.

But before that, during the day, the younger people started a carnivalistic procession to bring in the wood that is needed to make the bonfire.

On the beach the youths are doing all sorts of things youths do when intoxicated. Like going swimming with clothes on, or actually throwing friends into the sea for a compulsory swim.

BTW. The village president offered us beers because we were empty-handed.
