March 24, 2007 till next entry A very important football game in Athens tonight. Greece vs Turkey Greece did very well in the beginning of the first half by scoring the first goal. Most of that half Greece had the upperhand, despite some drawbacks, and controlled the game. BUT...as we watched the game on TV in the austere inside of the kafeneion Gero Platanos with our friend Nikos and others, and the second half was going on... ...Nikos' face in the mirror started to look more and more worried. And with a reason. The second half of the game went really sour for Greece, and when the referee's whistle blew, Turkey had won the hometeam by 1-4. But that is only football! March 25, 2007 till next entry Today is Greece's national holiday commemorating the uprising of 1821 and the end of the Turkish rule in (mainland) Greece. This day is also dedicated to the Annunciation of the Holy Virgin. So it's more than appropriate to show the flag. If we are not mistaken, this one is on the balcony of the recently re-elected president (mayor) of Kalyves. [ If you see only this frame, click here to see the complete diary ] |
