I've had a more than 25-year long friendship with a marvellous Swiss fellow named Pierre-Alain. And late last summer he 'haunted' my mind with a 42 km marathon here in Helsinki. - Even with the endless, 100 mile conversations we've had during these years that idea is too much mileage for me. So, I stayed home and he wore out his shoes. Enjoying! - And I sense a tiny bit of envy in me.

And this friend brought in a friend & a colleague who's very much at ease everywhere, named "Ise", and they brought in their wines. - So it's easy for me to accept all the consequences. Enjoying!

Their home town , Geneva, seems to have an interesting LA CAVE DE GENÈVE producing subtle, rather light wines. They (what I've experienced) use cabernet franc, a lighter brother of C.S., and ofcourse a rather light-skinned merlot, but also an interesting mix : gamaret.

Gamaret seems to be a "vigorous red wine grape cultivar mainly grown in the Vaud/Valais districts of Switzerland. Reported to be a Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc x Reichensteiner vinifera cross variety released in 1970 by the Pully Research Institute, Nyon, Switzerland. Makes a spicy, tannic, structured product suitable for varietal wine and blends (eg. with Garanoir) that some contend can resemble a light Bordeaux red wine in good vintage years." (Quoted from "Winegrape Glossary" at Robin Garr's site).

I found the light aspects of these wines, with their distinctly different characters, enjoyable both on the porch (some call it verandah ;-) in the warmth of late summer, and later at a not-so-heavy-a-dinner.

You should have seen the amounts of pasta these two Swiss friends stuffed in themselves just before the race! It was unbelievable, but had a rationale to it!
