Rostock - Friday, May 4 to Saturday May 5, 2012

Rostock came to me as a pleasant surprise. On the way to Crete I had no time to explore it. Now I had!

The Old Town revealed it's meticulous restoration of the old Hansa buildings, and what is as important, the way the new buildings have been nicely fitted to follow the old style with a modern look!

Here one does not have to admire the beauty of ugliness, as in e.g. Hania's or Rethymnon's old Venetian harbours with their shabby, though enchanting, look.

Opposite the fountain was one of the best restaurants in the Old Town. As it was high season for German asparagus, I ventured to taste an asparagus soup. It was quite nice, tasty, but the soup itself was rather thin, the asparaguses were represented there by some odd, solid pieces, and there was an ovewhelming taste of the slices of salmon added to the soup. On the whole a nice soup, BUT can't really be compared with the soup Kiti makes with the Cretan wild asparaguses our Horta-Expert-Elfman, Nikos, has given to us!
